What do I need to get started?
Technically speaking, you need a domain name, hosting and
a method to create / design your web pages. It also helps
to have a copy of your company's logo or letterhead if you
want your web site to match the rest of your company's branding
package. Last, but not least, figure out what content you
would like to incorporate into your site.
What
is a domain name?
A domain
name is your "address" on the World Wide Web. Domain
names are all registered and must be purchased, so do not
be surprised if the one you want is already taken. I will
help you decide what domain name will offer the most online
presence and can register the name as part of your design
package. I work with a company called Network
Solutions, which typically charges $35 per year for domain
name registration.
What
is hosting?
If a domain
name is your address on the Web, then hosting serves as the
site's "house." A hosting service is selling you
space on their server where your web site "lives"
and can be accessed across the Internet. I can work with any
hosting company that you chose, but prefer to work with Inventive
Media in Scottsbluff because I have a close working relationship
with the owner and easier access to the server configurations,
which is helpful when site's need online forms, etc..
How
do you design your sites?
I use
Dreamweaver and PhotoShop to design web sites. I work closely
with clients to decide what they want to get from their sites
and who they want to reach. From there we design sites around
the content.
How can I maintain my web site once it is finished?
I can
either train you or someone in your company to make updates
to the site or I can make the updates and changes as needed.
I am always willing to discuss customized maintenance plans.
